The brief called for designing an iconic structure to engage in an architectural and spatial dialogue with Santiago Calatrava’s Dubai Creek Tower. In design the iconic Emaar Mosque, we strove to design a spiritual space that evoked the form and majestic lines of the Dubai Creek Tower while using curvature that essentially felt “Arabic” or “Islamic” - the lines and curves often found in Arabic scripts. We were also eager to design an iconic and sublime experience; a contemporary monolithic structure that echoed the works of Boulee while carving out dynamic spaces through complex geometries.
