Christchurch has suffered from a tragic series of earthquakes between late 2010 and early 2012 – the deadliest of which was in the 22nd of February, 2011, which caused 185 fatalities and thousands of injuries. Many of the urban blocks were torn down due to structural instability - this block in particular was the subject for this competition. Observing the city guideline’s strict 1.3 plot ration and 15 m height limit, our proposal accommodates 62 units on a total built area of 10010 m2 over two residential buildings accommodating twin houses in the shorter building and apartments on the taller building. We opted to adopt an  interior courtyard scheme, to allow for a vast communal space in the heart of the project, which can later be developed into a small restaurant or café for the residents at a later phase.
