The competition sought to relocate the museum function from the current building offsite to the Dessau City Park. The brief calls for a total of 2,100 m2 of exhibition space (600m2 temporary exhibitions and 1,500 m2 permanent exhibitions) on a 2 acre plot of land in front of Dessau’s famous Hauptpost building (the post office was built in 1901). Along with the exhibition space, the brief calls for a 350m2 museum education zone as well as some of the necessary program elements that make up a museum of this size (visitors services, cafe, administration, logistics, outdoor spaces... etc).
